- langar ਲੰਗਰ
- The communal kitchen of a gurdwara, where all eat together on the same floor regardless of rank.
- akhara ਅਖਾੜਾ
- A ground for wrestling and physical training; in the essays, the reminder that the patient is a body, not an abstraction.
- Gurmukhi ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ
- The script in which Punjabi is written; strengthened and disseminated under Guru Angad Dev.
- gurdwara ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ
- A Sikh place of worship.
- Ang ਅੰਗ
- Literally “limb”: the term used for a page of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Every quotation on this site carries its Ang number.
- Mahala ਮਹਲਾ
- The marker in Sri Guru Granth Sahib indicating which Guru composed a verse; Mahala 2 is Guru Angad Dev.
- ardaas ਅਰਦਾਸ
- The Sikh prayer of supplication, said standing, at the close of worship and at moments of need.
- Majha ਮਾਝਾ
- The region of central Punjab between the Ravi and Beas rivers, including Amritsar and Khadur Sahib.
- MBBS
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery: the primary medical degree in India and many other countries, equivalent to the American MD.
